Taking Time to Think
How many of us move through our days with very little awareness. Moving from task to task in the routine work, family, chores.
We are all guilty of it, including me. I would like to set you all a challenge.
Take 10 minutes a day to take time to think, to reflect on your life, to discover your real reason for being here.
For me this works best first thing in the morning, whilst the rest of the house is still sleeping I get up 10-20 minutes earlier and do some yoga and then sit in meditation. This can be hard, but the benefits are truly amazing, my day goes so much better when I take this time for myself.
Even if it is only 10 minutes of focused reflection it will have a profound impact on the quality of your life.
I am sure you may think once your day gets started you cannot even find 10 minutes to eat lunch. But saying you don’t have time to improve your thoughts and your life is like saying you don’t have time to stop to put fuel in your car. Eventually it will catch up with you.
There is a technique for mastering the mind that works easier then some of the others, it is one that I really like and hope that it works for you to, (it will if you let it and give yourself that time) Try and practice it for at least 21 days, you will feel more energetic, enthusiastic and vibrant, whats to lose!´
It is called the heart of the rose.
All you need to practice it is a fresh rose and a silent place.
Start to stare at the center of the rose, its heart. The rose is very much like life, you will meet thorns along the way but if you have faith and believe in your dreams you will eventually move beyond the thorns into the glory of the flower. Keep staring at the rose. Notice its color, texture and design. Savor its fragrance and think only about this wonderful object in front of you. At first other thoughts will start entering your mind, distracting you from the heart of the rose. This is the mark of an untrained mind. But soon improvement will come, quickly. Just keep returning your mind to the rose. Soon your mind will grow strong and disciplined. This ritual should be performed daily, find a time that works for you. The first few day´s will be difficult, most of us live in such a busy pace of life that true stillness and silence can be foreign and uncomfortable. I am sure we can all think of someone who will say I don’t have time to stare at a flower, so many people live there lives this way. I recently read a saying that said “one must not allow the clock and the calendar to blind him to the fact that each moment of life is a miracle and a mystery.
Persist and spend longer and longer periods savoring the heart of the rose. Soon you will be in control of your mind. It will then only focus on what you command it to focus on. It will then be a wonderful servant, able to do extraordinary things for you. Remember, either you control your mind or it controls you.
You can also use a candle or simply close your eyes, but when new to mediation it does help to focus on something.
Love & Namaste to you x
